UNC Charlotte's Pre-Physical Therapy Club aims to support 49er students who are interested in becoming physical therapists. The pre-professional student organization helps to increase academic success by creating a community of students empowering one another while providing access to information and resources related to the physical therapy field.
Pursing a career in physical therapy consists of furthering one's education and receiving a post-graduate degree. Graduate programs in this field have a 10-15% acceptance rate which leads prospective students to apply to multiple graduate programs in hopes of being accepted. The application fee associated with the Physical Therapy Centralized Application Service (PTCAS) can present a burden on many 49er students hoping to continue their education and some fees are over $150 per application.
Many 49er students who hold part-time jobs are not able to work during these uncertain times caused by the pandemic. Given the economic climate, the Pre-Physical Therapy Club members are in need of financial assistance as they apply to graduate schools for physical therapy. This year, there is a total of 49 club members, including junior and senior students. A donation to this project will help relieve some of the burden and stress for these UNC Charlotte students as they apply to graduate programs.
Please consider making a gift in support of these students to continue their education!
Physical therapists commonly provide non-invasive treatment for musculoskeletal injuries and diseases, but may be involved in treatment of other body systems as well. In addition to treatment of existing problems, they may also provide therapies and strategies to maintain function and/or prevent future injury from occurring. Most PTs are found in primary care settings, such as hospitals, outpatient clinics, rehabilitation centers, and nursing homes. There are also options to specialize in a variety of subspecialties such as orthopedics, pediatrics, geriatrics, cardiology, sports medicine, and neurology. The PT field is rapidly growing as demand steadily increases and interest in the profession expands.
