With just one day left in the campaign, we're excited to announce that we have officially unlocked the Hathcock-Humble Challenge! Misty Cowan Hathcock ('85, '91, '92, '96, '04) and her mother, Linda Humble ('77, '78) challenged Niner Nation to raise $4,949 by April 19th. Since we've reached that goal, Misty and Linda will generously donate an additional $1,049 to the 49er Legacy Scholarship.

We still have several thousand dollars to go to reach our goal, so please continue to encourage other friends/family/49ers to make a gift to the 49er Legacy Scholarship. We would like to thank each and every donor for helping us get to where we are now, and hopefully in the future we're able to endow! As this project concludes, we will make sure to keep all of our supporters up to date on the progress we've made. On May 9, we will host our Spring 2019 Legacy Draping Commencement Ceremony!

If you haven't attended one of our draping ceremonies yet, just know that there is rarely a dry eye in the room! During the ceremony, a family member who is also a UNC Charlotte graduate places a stole on the graduating senior and, in turn, that student pins their family member. Talk about a tearjerker!

For alumnus C.T. Lefler '11, the ceremony is one of the best-selling points for UNC Charlotte’s Legacy Program. “It’s a real family event,” he said.

We already have over 115 individuals (including May 2019 graduates and their loved ones) registered for our spring draping ceremony! That's more than 25 students who will continue to make a 49er education an important part of their family tradition. But, how many of these students will be weighed down with student loan debt after graduating?

It's important to note that Misty and Linda are longtime supporters of Legacy students. Their joint scholarship, the Hathcock-Humble Legacy Scholarship in Education, provides necessary financial support to Legacy undergraduates in the Cato College of Education. As the Regional Director of the NC New Teacher Support Program and Director of Alumni Affairs in the Cato College of Education, Misty's passion for making higher education affordable can be seen in all that she does. 

In the Hathcock and Humble households, the 49er college experience does not end after graduation.

On February 28th, we raised $478.32 for the 49er Legacy Scholarship at the Dollars for Scholars fundraiser, hosted by the UNC Charlotte Young Alumni Chapter! More than 50 individuals, including Athletic Director Mike Hill, enjoyed a delicious meal at City Barbeque while a portion of their bill went to support the 49er Legacy Scholarship.
