Our Crowdfunding Groups
Goal Update : Due to the gracious donations from our supporters the Baja team is close to reaching our goal way ahead of schedule. We have decided to extend our crowdfunding goal to $6,000 and continue our campaign until the end of March. These additional donations will help us cover our travel and lodging expenses for competition. Thanks again to all of our supporters!
About Us
UNC Charlotte Baja SAE allows mechanical engineering students to gain real-world experience through a controlled design competition utilizing theory & skills learned in the classroom. Each year, the team builds an off-road vehicle within given technical specifications by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).
Project Focus
A competition ready car must be designed and built by May 2020 to compete in the international collegiate Baja SAE competition hosted in Louisville, Kentucky. Aside from having the car in a performing condition there are certain subsystems that need improvements from previous years due to various engineering reasons. These subsystems include the front suspension, steering and chassis.

The Team
This year’s team is comprised of Jonathan Plaxton, Zac Johnson, Ryan Dixon, Sam Johnson, Brendan Spencer, Nic Drizake, Alex Honeycutt and Brock Miller. They are all graduating in May 2020.
Our team is actively fundraising and reaching out to the Charlotte community to gain support and contributions to help fund all of the necessary materials and parts to build our car.
Senior Design EXPO
During the fall and spring semesters of senior year the race team participates in an expo presentation to display all of the current design & analysis work and the plans for fabrication. Below is the poster highlighting all of the major subsytems that all experienced design changes from previous years.
Our Final Senior Design Expo will take place May 2020, where we'll showcase our finalized race-ready car for competition.

The shocks on an off-road vehicle take a beating and need to be maintained in order to perform. Your donation will allow us to service our shocks and keep them performing at their full potential.
Your donation will help us purchase wiring harnesses for our data acquisition system, which will keep our data transmitting and allow for better engineering analysis to be performed.
Quality tires are extremely critical to perform in the harsh baja environment. Your donation will help us purchase fresh tires for our vehicle to ensure optimal handling.
Your donation will help us cover some of the the costs of renting out tracks and facilities, which will allow the team to precisely troubleshoot and tune our vehicle for competition.
